Minimum Requirements


To be eligible for consideration for accreditation, an institution or entity must satisfy the following minimum requirements.

  • It shall be either an institution of language education primarily offering certificates or diplomas in language studies; art institutes to include visual, musical and applied arts; vocational schools or institutes; online universities and or individual programs. All institutions and programs must be available in one of MEMAAC’s accreditation regions, regardless of where the originating institution or program developer is located.

An institution is presumed to be accreditable if it:

    • enrolls a majority of its students in one or more programs, the content of which is language, art or vocational in nature and leads to an academic credential (such as a certificate, diploma, or degree) or an occupational objective
    • enrolls students who demonstrate through valid assessment an ability to benefit from the educational experience
    • offers at least one program which is a minimum of 120 clock hours in length
  • It shall be legally organized; licensed by
    • the appropriate local government education agency, or
    • the appropriate local government  agency for authorizing the conduct of business
    • and have offered its educational services to the general public for at least 6 months immediately prior to consideration of the application by MEMAAC
  • Its mission shall be to offer educational programs which help students develop skills and competencies to enhance their careers or personal lives.
  • Its residential enrollment and enrollment in each program shall be sufficient both to support course work and learning experiences that, separately or in combination, constitute measurable and defined educational programs, and to enable MEMAAC to assess the educational effectiveness of those programs.
  • It shall have a sufficient number of graduates from a majority of its programs to enable MEMAAC to assess the educational effectiveness of those programs.
  • It shall be in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • It shall be organized as a corporation, as a limited partnership with a corporate general partner, as a limited liability company or as a non-profit organization for educational or philanthropic activities.
  • Its evaluation for accreditation shall be authorized by the chief executive officer.
  • Its owners or managers shall not have been debarred by MEMAAC.
